“A foolish man puts no value on his father's training; but he who has respect for teaching has good sense,” (Proverbs 15:5, BBE).

Sometimes, when a son (or daughter) recognizes the wisdom and prudence of his father, it is a bit too late to avoid dire consequences, but it’s always better to be late than never to learn. How much more effective to value the teaching and instruction of parents when we are young!

Mark Twain once said: “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”

This principle applies particularly to what God the Father teaches us through His inspired word in the Bible. When we learn from this instruction sometimes we can avoid the downside of learning by experience.
