“The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him. The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but he loves him who pursues righteousness,” (Proverbs 15:8-9, ESV).

Here we see the principle that God looks at the heart or attitude of a person. Those that break God’s laws can be very generous in their offerings and acts to God, but that doesn’t please Him. Yet He delights in the prayers of those who truly obey and follow Him.

The famous account of Cain and Abel in the book of Genesis exemplifies this principle (Genesis 4:1-15, Hebrews 11:4). Abel brought an offering to God and did so with the attitude of a godly individual, in submission to God, while Cain made his offering with the opposite attitude. Cain's wrong attitude resulted in tragedy when he murdered his brother, Abel.

How is your attitude? Do you pursue righteousness?
