Wisdom that sticks with you - straight from God's Word.

"People with a hot temper do foolish things; wiser people remain calm," (Proverbs 14:17, GNB).

This proverb about learning to be calm and collected reminds me of the famous poem, If by Rudyard Kipling. He wrote, "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you;... you'll be a Man, my son."  A quality of maturity that is true for both men and women.

Speaking of calm, the popular slogan, "Keep Calm and Carry On," (nowadays found on numerous items from coffee mugs to posters) was produced by the British Ministry of Information just before WWII, in 1939. It was meant to boost morale and encourage the British public to do just what the message said, stay calm and keep on keeping on in the face of aerial bombardment.

We would be wise to do the same. A level head during times of crisis, spritual or physical, should direct us to the true source of our calm - the peace of God.

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Chirst Jesus," (Philippians 4:6-7, NKJV).
