“No one likes the poor, not even their neighbors, but the rich have many friends. If you want to be happy, be kind to the poor; it is a sin to despise anyone.” (Proverbs 14:20-21, GNB)
How often does celebrity culture teach us to fix our gaze on those that are not extremely rich, not beautiful, and not powerful? Rarely. Why the obsession with the glittering world of excess everything?
Here the first verse explains the sad fact that people seek to be around those that are rich and powerful so they can benefit from the wealth and stature, while they avoid those in need since they are always asking for help. God says we are not to be that way.
How do you turn your gaze and your hand to showing kindness to the poor?
