Letters from the Readers

Two views of America

The United States has suffered many tragedies over the past two years and they always grow stronger as a nation. The world can only look on in shock and awe at the tragedies they endure and the strength they show. Their faith never wavers. Reacting to many tragedies, you hear mankind saying, “Why? How could God do this?” They, however, turn to God for guidance, comfort and support, enabling them to grow stronger and closer and without any doubt, a nation to be proud of. They are living proof that God exists because only He has the power to reach inside and soothe the devastation caused by tragedy. Why do so many people doubt Him?

—J.D.C., England

With so much anti-Americanism extant in the world, your praise of America is timely and refreshing. However, as the next letter affirms, not all of its people have turned to God and His righteous ways. Our free booklets Life’s Ultimate Question: Does God Exist? and Why Does God Allow Suffering? may help those who still have doubts about our Creator.

Life takes its twists and turns. Just like our beautiful nation which has been up for our entire lifetime and now clearly appears to be headed down, as we look at decaying foundations incapable of supporting it. Thank you for all the literature you produce, so well-researched and well-written.

—L.A., Fairfield, California

Publications gauge world trends

I am renewing my subscription to your Bible Study Course as well as sending you a contribution to aid in your efforts towards God’s work. I must admit that years ago I put your literature down. I stopped reading it because I said to myself that what was written in The United States and Britain in Bible Prophecy would never happen; it is too far-fetched. Then with the World Trade Center bombings on Sept. 11, it all began to come together and make sense.

—K.S., San Francisco, California

I would like to express my thanks for The Good News. In this area of the world (the Middle East) where we see the fires of a huge war and humans are killing each other without any reason, reading your nice magazine gives me a relaxed view that there are some other human beings that are helping and thinking about others.

—Dr. J.A., Middle East

World News & Prophecy

I want to thank you again for sending me your fine newsletter World News & Prophecy (a sister publication to The Good News). These are scary times for everyone and this publication is most enlightening. I know you people are blessed by God with knowledge that others don’t have.

—C.L.K., Bruce Crossing, Michigan

Bible Study Course

I would be delighted to receive your Bible Study Course. Thank you so much for caring about those of us who are floundering in confusion about what the Bible really means, and for the privilege of being able to receive this information free of charge—which is unheard of in the world we live in. I enclose a donation which isn’t much, but at least it will help towards postage.

—A.N., South Africa

A positive approach to The Good News

I happened upon your January/February issue of The Good News. Usually I am hesitant to read any religious material other than the Holy Bible, but I am writing to tell you that I was highly impressed with your magazine. I began reading it because of the cover. It seemed to draw me because of all that’s going on in the world around us. I’ll admit I was extremely leery on beginning, but found myself comparing what your magazine said with the Bible. Once again I was impressed with the accuracy with which The Good News approached the Bible, and the clarity
of the issues astounded me.

—G.W., Mount Pleasant, Iowa

Publishing the gospel worldwide

I noticed the growing number of your readers noted on the editorial page. Also, with your mailing addresses classified into regions of the world, we see the evidence that many are being enlightened. I’m deeply touched by your commitment to reach out through The Good News magazine’s dissemination worldwide. My outlook on life, my views and my very self have experienced changes. May God bless you in all your works.

—A.S., Internet

The latest circulation figure noted on page 2 of this issue is 456,000. Of course, the main goal of The Good News is reaching our readers’ minds with the gospel—the good news—of the Kingdom of God and helping to pave the way for God to effect permanent changes in their lives. Jesus said He came not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance (Matthew 9:13).

Readers from India

I have been a subscriber to the magazine of understanding, The Good News, for many years. As a teacher and headmaster, I have found this magazine a great help in preparing my lessons and assembly talks. A large number of staff and boys read it in our library and find it interesting and instructive.

—B.S.B., India

Your March/April 2003 issue was wonderful. Thank you for telling the reasons for Christ’s death and resurrection. I appreciate your articles on Easter and other pagan festivals like Christmas and Good Friday, which are unbiblical. Thanks for such a wonderful magazine which doesn’t simply give us the best but also the latest to keep abreast of the current pathetic situations of the world—that, too, with a biblical perspective.

—M.T., India

Reader from Saudi Arabia

I praise and thank God for the United Church of God during the last two years in providing me with The Good News magazine. In spite of the restrictions on religious life, I receive the magazines intact. The articles and information based on the Scriptures help me a lot in my meditation. It encourages, enlightens and uplifts my spirit to depend more on God’s Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

—D.Z.B., Saudi Arabia
