The mission of The Good News is to put in plain words the wonderful promise of our Creator to solve the enormous problems confronting us every day. His solution is not only effective, it is also comprehensive. He will begin to fully implement it by sending
His Son Jesus Christ back to earth to correct every human problem we now face.
But Jesus won't do it alone! Today He is diligently working, with His Father, to prepare more sons and daughters of God to serve under Him in His coming Kingdom. He makes an amazing promise to those who mature spiritually to the point that He can trust them to follow His instructions.
He promises, "To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne" (Revelation 3:21, emphasis added throughout). God Himself adds another very personal promise: "I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the L ord Almighty" (2 Corinthians 6:18).
The apostle Paul was exceedingly enthusiastic over this plan to create a divine family, exclaiming, "For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God" (Ephesians 3:14-19).
In this issue of The Good News we feature several articles aimed directly at helping you gain that comprehension of what God has planned.
We begin with the most basic challenge that anyone who seeks to be a child of God must face—confronting the issue of sin. A follow-up article explains how we can begin the process of reconciling with God.
Dealing with sin in the manner that God would have us face it requires a clear understanding of how He defines the term. So another feature article contrasts the popular views of right and wrong prevalent in our society today with how the Bible defines sin. Emphasis is placed on understanding the "spirit of the law" as we begin applying biblical principles in the way we live.
To please God, we also need to rightly understand His will—what He wants from us—as we learn the way of life He wants us to pursue. Helpful tips on how to become better acquainted with what the Bible really teaches and how to involve your whole family in that learning process are covered in two additional articles.
We also explore the meaning of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, one of the festivals by which God reveals His long-term plan to gather the vast majority of all people who have ever lived into His family. He is the perfect Father who is thoroughly engaged in a process of building His perfect family—a family of righteous sons and daughters to whom He has promised eternal life. GN
